The Primary School Kladska in Prague 2 was founded in 1902. It's got a varied history documented in old school chronicles filed at school and on the school websites. From the school year 1965/1966 on the school has been providing extended language teaching so that we celebrated 40 years of teaching the German language from the 3rd grade in 2005/2006. In 2000, the school's got the title School of the College of Education with Charles University Prague. The staff consists of 26 (20,5) teachers and 4 (3,5) educators in the after-school club. The proportion of women : men is 83,3 : 16,7. The qualification of the teaching staff is 88 per cent, pedagogic competence being 90 per cent. The founder of the school is the Municipality of Prague 2.

The teaching is based on the curriculum of the educational programme "Základní škola" (Primary School) No. 16333/96-22-21. From the very beginning in the 1st grade they have 2 periods of German a week, from the 2nd grade 3 periods of German plus one period organized by the Parents'club (KRPS). English is being taught from the 6th grade on. In the 7th grade pupils can choose further languages in language clubs - French, Spanish, Italian, Russian. In the 5th grade, most of the pupils attend English lessons in the language club (2 periods a week). From the 5th grade on, they have German conversation taught by a native speaker and from the 6th grade English conversation (the school's got a native speaker from Ireland in September 2005). Foreign language teaching is the main task of our school so the pupils will be given one additional period of foreign language conversation a week.

A special feature of our school are exchange trips, in particular to the German speaking countries, where the pupils live in families. First, a foreign group comes to Prague, later our pupils go abroad. Our exchange schools are Kooperative Gesamtschule on the isle of Nordeney, Grundschule Delmenhorst, and Talschule and Mörikeschule in Backnang in Germany as well as Bronby Strandskol in Denmark.

Our school has joined the project Socrates-Comenius. We've finished three years of cooperation with Germany, Denmark and Estonia. From 2008/2009 to 2010/2011 we participated in the EU project Comenius with the schools from Denmark, Germany, Estonia, France and Turkey. Now we are in the preparation period of a further Comenius project for 2012-2014.

Our pupils are successful in various language, scientific, art and music competitions. In the school year 2004/2005 they were placed first in a competition called "Prague full of historic sites", first in the art competitions "Rusalka" and "Jiny svet" (The other world), we have the absolute winner in the Prague round of the singing competition "Snitka", the 2nd to 5th place in the district round of a maths competition, the 1st place in a district round of a biology competition, the 4th place in the maths competition "Pikomat" organized by the Education College with Charles University Prague, the 1st and 2nd place in a district round of the English conversation competition as well as the 2nd and 4th to 7th place in a district round of the German conversation competition. Our pupils are also successful in sports competitions.

Leavers from our school continue their studies largely at secondary grammar schools and commercial schools.

As to drug prevention we cooperate with the so called Prev-centrum; it organizes workshops for the upper school classes twice a year. The pupils attend also lectures on health and traffic.

Pupils regularly attend concerts and theatre during the school year. A number of pupils of the 8th and 9th grade are members of the Young theatre spectators'club and attend performances together.

Each class has the possibility to spend at least one week a year in the open-air school beginning in the 2nd grade. The upper school classes go skiing to the Austrian or Italian Alps regularly. A number of our teachers have passed the skiing instructor exams.

The cooperation with the Parents' club is excellent. The parents meet once a month and help the school a lot. They organize clubs of languages, music, sports, drama as well as preparation for entrance exams in Czech and Mathematics. They not only sponsor the school, they also do much work for the school. Many parents and grandparents of today's pupils were former pupils of our school.

There is also a School Board cooperating actively with the school.

Pupils of the lower school classes can attend the after-school club. Also pupils of the higher school classes have their after-school club. The school has a playground which is being employed by school classes in the morning, the after-school club in the afternoon, and by the public in the evening.

The school building has also a school canteen which is independent of the school.

Since 1994, the school has actively joined the movement On Own Feet - Centipede. Every year we organize exhibitions where our pupils' works of art are being sold. The money collected helps children who need it most. In the course of 14 years, our pupils have collected more than 250,000 crowns for regions affected by floods, war (Kosovo, Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan) as well as for Thailand. Some important visitors came to our school. The President of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus and his wife visited our school, also the former Secretary-General of NATO Lord George Robertson and the Chief of Staff of the Czech Army Pavel Stefka were our guests. Our pupils were accepted by the Secretary-General of NATO Jaap de Hoop Scheffer in Brussels and by Karel Schwarzenberg in the Prague Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Some pupils were appreciated by the former minister of defence Vlasta Parkanová for outstanding literary works on war called Příběhy válkou střižené.
